Lucio Fontana

Rosario (Argentina) 1899-Comabbio (Varese) 1968. The son of Italians in Argentina, he worked with his sculptor father and was a follower of Adolfo Wildt. By violating the canvas with cuts he went beyond the painting-sculpture dichotomy in 1949. Founded the Spazialismo movement, provoking viewers with monochrome paintings. Worked as a painter, sculptor, ceramicist and mosaic artist, as well as an architect. His studio was in Albissola Marina, but it was in Milan that he developed his artistic and cultural discourse, where his wife Teresita Rasini set up the Fondazione Fontana in 1982 with over 600 of his works.
