Salvatore Quasimodo

Modica 1901-Naples 1968. A poet, translator, leading exponent of Hermeticism, Nobel Laureate in Literature in 1959. The son of a stationmaster, he grew up in various parts of Sicily (including Messina, after the earthquake of 1909, where he graduated and became a lifelong friend of Giorgio La Pira). In Rome from 1919.
