Milan 1919-London 1981. Journalist, publisher and cultural organiser. He worked with many magazines as a young man and discovered a passion for theatre. In 1947 he founded (with Giorgio Strehler and Nina Vinchi) the Piccolo Teatro della Città di Milano, directing it for 25 years, before becoming superintendent of La Scala (1972-1977) and president of RAI (1977-1980). From 1980 chairman of the Electa publishing house. The Fondazione Grassi in Milan promotes his ideas and experiences.
