Mike (Michael Nicholas Salvatore) Bongiorno
New York 1924–Monte Carlo 2009. The most popular television host in Italy in the second half of the twentieth century. A member of the Resistance and imprisoned in San Vittore, he was deported to Mauthausen. With Lascia o raddoppia? on the RAI he took television to the masses, contributing to the linguistic unification of Italy. From 1979 he was a symbol of Silvio Berlusconi’s television network (Tele Milano and later Canale 5).
