Mortara 1849-Milan 1928. A graduate in Medicine in Pavia, gynaecologist and university lecturer (Sassari and Pavia) in Obstetrics, university rector and politician. In 1902 Social Democratic Union MP. Senator for life from 1905 and mayor of Milan from 1922 (in 1923 the City incorporated 11 surrounding municipalities), promoted the construction of the University, of which he was rector from ’23 to ’26. Instrumental in the creation of the Cancer Institute in 1924.
