Luigi Giovanni Giussani
Desio 1922-Milan 2005. A priest and theologian, in the 1950s he founded GS-Gioventù Studentesca, later CL-Comunione e Liberazione (1970). In 1945 he was ordained a priest by Cardinal Ildefonso Schuster. Expert in Eastern theology and in US Protestantism. From ’54 to ’64 he taught Religion at the Liceo Berchet in Milan. Then professor of Introduction to Theology at the Cattolica until 1990. Made a Monsignor by Pope John Paul II in 1883. Helped set up the Food Bank in 1989. In ’97 his The Religious Sense was presented in English at the UN in New York. Funeral celebrated in Milan by Cardinal Ratzinger.
