Milan 1909-Milan 1986. Italian politician and intellectual. The diocese of Milan recognised him as a Servant of God. In 2013 the Pope promulgated a decree recognising his heroic virtues. Lazzati was declared a Venerable. A graduate in Classical Literature from the Cattolica, he was the head of the Gioventù italiana di Azione Cattolica from ’34 to ’45. From ’39 he lectured on Christian Literature at the Cattolica. With the Alpini in the war, he was in the national leadership of the DC from ’46, elected to the Constituent Assembly and then Parliament. He returned to Milan where Montini made him editor-in-chief of L’Italia. Rector of the Cattolica University from 1975 to 1983.
