Milan 1836-Milan 1921. Engineer, businessman and politician. A fighter in the Second Italian War of Independence under Garibaldi. Professor of Mechanics and Industrial Engineering in the school that became the Politecnico University. A visionary entrepreneur, he gave Milan the first Edison electric power station in Europe, which illuminated the city-centre streets in June 1883. A municipal councillor, MP, Minister of Finance and Treasury in the Rudinì governments, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and, lastly, senator of the Kingdom. Also chairman of Edison, rector of the Politecnico University, chairman of Credito Italiano.
