Franca Rame

Villastanza di Parabiago (Milan) 1929-Milan 2013. Theatre actress, playwright, MP. Born into a puppet-theatre family, engaged in 1950 by the company of Tino Scotti (Marcello Marchesi’s Ghe pensi mi). Married Dario Fo in Sant’Ambrogio, Milan, in 1954, and they founded a company in ’58. In 1962 she and Fo hosted Canzonissima on RAI television (replaced for a sketch on safety at work by Sandra Mondaini and Tino Buazzelli). Fo-Rame left the ETI circuit in ’68 setting up the La Comune group. Supported Soccorso Rosso Militante and took part in the feminist movement. Performed her own plays (Tutta casa, letto, chiesa), raped in 1973 (the theme of Lo stupro in 1981). Staged Mistero Buffo and other performances with Dario Fo. Film actress. Italia dei Valori senator in 2006, left Parliament two years later. Autobiography in 2009 entitled Una vita all’improvviso.
