Ernesto Teodoro Moneta
Milan 1833-Milan 1918. A journalist and patriot, the only Italian to receive the Nobel Prize for Peace (1907). Editor-in-chief (1867-1895) of Il Secolo (founded by Edoardo Sonzogno), worked for peace and international justice (Italian representative at the International Peace Bureau and chairman of the International Congress on Peace at the 1906 Expo in Milan). Involved in the Risorgimento, he joined Garibaldi in the Expedition of the Thousand and was chief of staff under General Sirtori in the ill-fated Battle of Custoza.
