Enrico Forlanini

Milan 1848-Milan 1930. An Italian engineer, inventor and pioneer in aviation. Acknowledged as the inventor of the hydrofoil. Important pioneering work on helicopters and dirigibles, making the control car part of the housing in order to reduce drag. The first to use jets of compressed air to steer an aircraft. This was applied to the Omnia Dir airship, which flew posthumously in 1931.
