Milan 1815-Milan 1878. Studied at the Accademia di Brera, much influenced by Hayez. Painted biblical and historical subjects, inserting patriotic references. He stayed in Switzerland to escape the Austrian repression of the Milanese uprising in ’48. In the following years he exhibited in Turin, Genoa, Florence, Paris and Vienna, where in 1873 his A Domestic Drama received an award. His exhibitions in Paris in ’78 earned him the Légion d’honneur.
