Paderno (Cremona) 1834-Milan 1886. Initial musical education from his organist father. Passed the entrance exam to the music academy in Milan, aged nine, graduating in 1854. The debut of the Promessi Sposi, with the libretto edited by Emilio Praga, was a success at the Teatro dal Verme. Married to the opera singer Teresina Brambilla, he moved to Milan. In 1876 debuted at La Scala with La Gioconda. Professor of composition at the Milan music academy (with Puccini and Mascagni among his pupils).
