Aligi Sassu

Milan 1912 – Pollença (Spain) 2000. From a socialist Sardinian family on his father’s side, a friend of Carlo Carrà, drew close to Milanese Futurism, invited by Marinetti to the Venice Biennale in 1928. A friend of Bruno Munari and Giacomo Manzù, vast production in Milan, and then stayed in Paris. Arrested as part of an anti-Fascist conspiracy, pardoned in ’38, went back to painting in ’41. Illustrated The Betrothed in 1943. Stays in France and Spain. He donated 350 works to the city of Lugano, setting up the Fondazione Sassu.
